His books mainly focus on the Quran and the interpretation of various aspects of the Quran. M. A. S. Haleem was born in Egypt. He studied the Quran as a child, and is now a Hafiz, that is a complete authority on the work. He studied at the Cairo and the Cambridge Universities. He is currently Professor of Islamic Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. In recognition of his services to Arabic culture and inter-faith relationship, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2008.
