Summary Of The Book Rudy Baylor, the Rainmaker and protagonist is in his final semester at law school. As part of his course, he is supposed to give free legal advice to some senior citizens. This is where he stumbles upon one of the biggest and most complex insurance scams. His elderly clients, Dot and Buddy Black, are being denied insurance by Great Benefit Life Insurance, one of the most prominent insurance companies. Their son, Donny Ray, is fighting a tough battle against leukemia, and his only chance of survival is a bone marrow transplant. The insurance giant refuses to pay them. Shoddily treated, the elderly couple is clueless on how to proceed. Skeptical at first, Baylor soon realises the enormity of this insurance scam. Donny Ray, due to the insurance company’s unwillingness to pay, loses his battle against the disease. But, Baylor is determined to win the legal battle for his clients. This case that the young lawyer has accidently stumbled upon, is perhaps the most lucrative and most important case ever in civil litigation. But is Baylor ready to handle this? About John Grisham Born in 1955, in Arkansas, United States, John Grisham is one of the most reputed and most widely read authors. Grisham’s first book, A Time To Kill, was published in 1988. His other books include The Firm, The Pelican Brief, The Client, The Testament, The Summons, The Last Juror, The Broker, The Runaway Jury, A Painted House, and Skipping Christmas. Grisham graduated in Accounting from Mississippi State University. He got his degree in Law from the University of Mississippi School of Law. Before beginning his career as a writer, he worked as a lawyer for almost a decade. The inspiration for his first novel came from the heart wrenching testimony of a 12 year old rape victim that he happened to overhear in a courtroom. A Time To Kill was written by him while he was still working as a lawyer. It was with Grisham’s second novel, The Firm, that his success story began. All bestsellers, his novels have been translated into 29 languages. Nine of his novels have been adapted into movies. Grisham, his wife, and two children, currently have homes in Mississippi and Virginia.
