The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King is the final part in The Lord of the Rings series. It narrates the many adventures of the characters and continues the ring-bearers quest. Summary Of The Book The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King, set in the years 3019 to 3021, begins with Pippin and Gandalf travelling to Minas Tirith. The next day, Aragorn battles against the Dunedain, and Theoden moves out of the Hornburg fortress and goes to Harrowdale. Aragorn is victorious in the battle and goes to Dunharrow. On the other hand, Aragorn goes on the "Paths of the Dead”. Gandalf, accompanied by Pippin, reach Minas Tirith, and Lord Denethor is unhappy about Gandalf’s arrival. The first part of the novel centres on the many battles and adventures of Aragorn, Gandalf, Legolas, Merry, and Gimli. Meanwhile, Sam and Frodo travel through the land of Mordor seeking to destroy the powerful dark ring. On their journey, they have to defeat the Orcs and Gollum among other creatures. Gandalf, Aragorn, and the other members of the fellowship learn of Sauron’s plan to attack Gondor in Minas Tirith. As Frodo and Sam struggle further in their quest to destroy the ring, The Dark Lord’s armies are missing, but his evil shadow is spreading further. As Men, Elves, Dwarves, and Ents unite together to fight the Dark Lord, things become murkier. Will Frodo be able to destroy the enchanting ring? Will they ever be free from Sauron's powers? Will goodness finally triumph? Will humans stand a chance in this final battle? Originally published in 1955, this bestseller has received much popular and critical acclaim. A video game adaptation of the book is also available. About J. R. R. Tolkien John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was an English professor, philologist, poet and writer. His famous works include The Hobbit, The Fall of Arthur, Unfinished Tales and The History of Middle-earth, The Silmarillion, The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún, Mr. Bliss, Roverandom, and Farmer Giles of Ham. His writing is chiefly influenced by the British adventure works, and the mythological traditions of the Welsh and Norse cultures. Catholic imagery and theology can also be found in his works. The ‘Father of Modern Fantasy Literature’ was born in the year 1892, in Bloemfontein, Orange Free State. Tolkien studied at the King Edward’s School in Birmingham, and received his degree from Exeter College, Oxford. He was the Reader at the University of Leeds and also taught at Pembroke College at Oxford. His name was included by The Times in “The 50 Greatest British Writers Since 1945”. A devout Roman Catholic, he married his childhood sweetheart, Edith Mary Bratt in 1916. He died at the age of 81 in England.
