The Round House is a book that is about the Ojibwe community and how they live rather uncomfortably with the white people. Joe, the son of a woman who has been done injustice, is out to find out what happened to his mother after his unsuccessful attempt in trying to heal her. Summary of the Book Geraldine Coutts, a woman who lives in the reservation of North Dakota, has been attacked. She lives with her husband, Bazil, and thirteen-year-old son, Joe. She is traumatized by the incident and is not willing to tell her husband or police officials of what happened as it is not something that she wishes to relive. From then on, Joe’s life has been transformed. His mother starts to live a life of solitude, and Joe starts to feel lonely. He soon finds himself getting involved with an adult world for which he is not prepared. His father is a tribal judge who is doing his best to fight for justice, but Joe loses patience with the police investigation and sets out with his friends in search of answers. They visit the Round House, a sacred place of worship for the Ojibwe, and his journey has just begun. This book brings out the harsh realities of the life of the Ojibwe and the injustice that they face. About Louise Erdrich Louise Erdrich is the owner of Birchbark Books, an independent bookstore.
