The Secret Garden is a classic children’s novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Summary of the Book After Mary Lennox’s parents die of an epidemic, she is taken in by her uncle. Mary is a spoilt girl, given to pride and selfishness. At Misselthwaite Manor, she will learn values which will change her demeanour completely. She discovers an overgrown garden, one that hasn’t been tended too since the death of her aunt. As she begins to take care of the garden, she discovers a hidden room, where her cousin, Colin, is hidden from everyone in the manor. He is considered to be an invalid, prone to tantrums and fits of rage. Mary decides to help him, and the secret garden may be the cure he desperately needs to come out and discover life.
