About the Book This research study was undertaken to understand the influence of three independent variables viz., Self-Concept, Study Attitude and Home Environment on the Academic Achievement of the Secondary School students studying in five different districts of Andhra Pradesh, India. Other extraneous variables such as locality, gender, medium, type of school and religion were taken into consideration. A questionnaire consisting of hundred questions on Self-Concept, forty questions on study attitude and hundred questions on home environment was given to a sample population of 1407 students. The findings reveal that the students belong to various levels of the above mentioned variables. Fifteen hypotheses were formulated of which statistical calculations were used to reject or accept the null hypotheses. Correlation between academic achievement and other independent variables was calculated and this was supported by linear regression analysis. In the final analysis it can be concluded that Study Attitude of the secondary school students has stronger influence on their academic achievement than their Self-Concept and Home Environment. However, it must be understood that one’s Self-Concept influences his/her academic achievement and there is reciprocal relationship between these two variables. Good Home Environment will also provide conducive atmosphere for the students to perform well academically. Sr Dr A M Jansi FSAG
