Harry needs to find out the reason behind the disappearance of women in the area. When he does get an idea, he realizes he has entered a game that could end badly for him. Summary of the Book A little boy wakes up to find that his mother is missing and the house is filled with wet footprints. Also, the snowman outside the house has his mother’s scarf round its neck. Harry Hole, the inspector in that area, is out to find out what is happening and is sure that the letter he has just received has a connection with the disappearance. He soon finds out that a number of women, all wives and mothers, have been going missing, and this is something that has been happening for a few years now. It is up to Harry to figure out what is going on and who is behind all these disappearances. With the next disappearance, Harry is sure that he is part of a deadly plot.
