It’s all for one and one for all in Alexandre Dumas’ The Three Musketeers, a swashbuckling tale of three men and their acts of derring-do. Summary of the Book D’Artagnan is a young Gascon who joins the King’s Musketeers. However, on his very first day, he manages to pick three separate fights with three of the most skilled, and arguably most troublesome, men of the lot! He manages to survive, making three of the most unlikeliest friends and teammates possible: Athos, Porthos and Aramis! Together, the King’s Musketeers must protect the regiment against the plots of the Cardinal Richelieu and his guards. The Cardinal has his eyes set on the Queen, and the Musketeers must do all they can to keep his dirty hands away from her. However, their greatest adversary might not be the kind they expect, for not all enemies wield a sword, and neither are all of them men. About Alexandre Dumas Alexandre Dumas, pere, was a French writer. He is also known for The Count of Monte Cristo. This book has been adapted in several films throughout the years. The most notable adaptation was made in 1973 starring Oliver Reed, Raquel Welch, Michael York, Frank Finlay and Richard Chamberlain. Series Reading Order The Three Musketeers begins the d’Artagnan Romances. The story of the Musketeers continues in Twenty Years After and The Vicomte of Bragelonne: Ten Years Later. Louise de la Vallière and The Man in the Iron Mask are sub-plots of The Vicomte of Bragelonne, and both are often published as separate books in themselves.
