The Time Machine is a classic work of science fiction by the Father of Science Fiction, H. G. Wells. Summary of the Book A scientist invites his peers to his house to make a startling announcement: he has invented a machine that will travel through time. His guests are sceptical, but when the scientist shows them his prototype miniature model, they are curious. The model vanishes in front of their eyes, and he asks them to return the next week. When they do, the machine materializes in front of them just as the scientist predicted. The scientist doesn’t reveal that he has a far greater plan in mind. He has already built a full-scale model of his invention, and he uses it to travel to the future. There, he finds that humanity has dwindled, turning into a society of dwarfish adults who live in futuristic but decaying buildings. They are called the Eloi, and they are a hostile group. The Morlocks have put a stop to his plans of escape, carrying away the machine. Without it, he cannot return to his own time, and he is seemingly doomed to live out his days in the apocalyptic future. About H. G. Wells Herbert George "H. G." Wells was a British writer, considered the Father of the Science-Fiction genre. He is best remembered for The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man and The Island of Doctor Moreau. This book has been adapted several times into hit movies and TV series.
