When Macbeth receives a prophecy from three witches that he will one day become the King of Scotland, he is overcome with ambition. Encouraged by his wife, Lady Macbeth, he kills King Duncan and takes the throne. Later, after being forced to commit more murders in order to protect himself, Macbeth and his wife are plagued by guilt and paranoia.
