The Tusk That Did The Damage, by Tania James, is an enchanting collection of three stories that depict love, revenge, sacrifice, truth, myth, and duty. Summary of the Book When a young elephant is ruthlessly orphaned by poachers, it begins tormenting the countryside people. He earns his malicious name after killing the humans and burying them with leaves. Manu, the studious son of a rice farmer, has lost his to a gravedigger. Within no time, he is drawn into the enticing world of ivory hunting. Emma is making a documentary set in a Kerala wildlife park with her best buddy. She gradually discovers the blurred out boundary between conservation and corruption, soon leading to her own betrayal. Blending an audacious imagination and arresting prose, these stories poignantly describe how we treat nature and each other. About Tania James Tania James's debut novel, Atlas of Unknowns, was a New York Times editors’ choice. It was also shortlisted for the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature. Three of her stories from aerogrammes were finalists for Best American Short Stories in 2008 and 2011. From 2011 - 2012, she made it as a Fulbright fellow to India, living in New Delhi. James currently lives in Washington, D.C.
