About Derek O Brien Derek O'Brien is well known Indian television personality and Member of Parliament. He is also famous for conducting inter-school quiz competitions and game shows outside of India, in Bangladesh, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Nepal, and Pakistan. He continues to host the longest-running game show on Indian television, the Bournvita Quiz Contest. Apart from this, he has also been hosting The Brand Equity Quiz, which is the most popular corporate quiz show in the country since 1991. He has written a series of quiz books, all published by Penguin, including The Ultimate Book Of Knowledge series, The Puffin Factfinder, and Speak Up, Speak Out: My Favourite Elocution Pieces and How to Deliver Them. His political career started in 2004, when he joined the All India Trinamool Congress in West Bengal. Currently, he is the vice-president of the All India Trinamool Congress, occupies posts in the Indian Railways, and is a member of the Rajya Sabha.
