About Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born in 1920. He completed his education at the University of Calcutta and later at the University of Dhaka. One of the founders of the Awami League, Rahman led his party to a historic victory in the election of 1970, a crucial event in the emergence of Bangladesh. He was assassinated in Dhaka in August, 1975, during a military coup d'état.
