Summary Of The Book The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Fry is the debut novel of Rachel Joyce. It is an intriguing tale of a simple old man named Harold Fry. The narrative begins with a sad letter addressed to Harold by an ex-colleague, Queenie Hennessy, who he hasn’t met in the last twenty years. Queenie has been diagnosed with cancer. She is on her deathbed and counting her final days in a hospice. Saddened by this news, Harold scribbles a note to his dying friend and walks out to a letter box nearby to post it, but he ends up having second thoughts. Harold finally decides to call the hospice where Queenie has been admitted. No one answers the phone, which makes him decide to go and meet her on foot. His journey is bound to be tough as he has no hiking boots, no rain gear, no map, and no cell phone. Harold’s attempt to take up such a task is confusing as he has a wife waiting for him back home. About Rachel Joyce Rachel Joyce is a well-known British author who gained fame right from her very first novel. The other book written by her is Perfect which was published in 2013. She is the author of over twenty original plays that she wrote for BBC Radio 4. Many of her stories were adapted for the Classic Series and Woman’s Hour, including a period drama for BBC 2. Joyce bagged the Tinniswood Award for Best Radio Play in the year 2007. She has worked in theatre and television with over twenty years of experience. Currently, Joyce resides in Gloucestershire with her family.
