When Five-year old Brinda is widowed after being married for a few hours, her family refuses to take her back in. She is an abhaga, one that brings bad luck. And little Brinda finds her way to Banaras, to Nirmala Ashram under the watchful eye of Vasanti Bua. And thus begins Brinda's story-a tragic tale of promises, fate and redemption, another tale of the city's numerous white shadows, as the people around her come together to redeem themselves and restore faith in humanity once again in the holiest city of them all-Banaras.
