The Wind in the Willows is a classic children’s story by Kenneth Grahame. Summary of the Book Mole leads a quiet life in his underground home. Now that winter’s gone and spring has arrived, he is bored with cleaning his house. He leaves home to take a stroll and ends up near a river. He meets a water rat named Ratty who offers to take Mole on a trip in his rowing boat. Mole takes him up on the offer and joins him. Together, these two new friends spend many days on the river. One day, they land by the great Toad Hall, owned by the rich and friendly Toad. Toad is good at heart, but he is also a little proud of himself. He is always obsessed with all the latest trends, and he is also prone to getting bored of them just as quickly as he picks them up. When the two friends visit him, Toad is obsessed with his new horse drawn carriage. He asks them to join him on a ride. Ratty is a little worried about Toad’s obsessions, but Mole is immediately interested in the carriage. The trio embarks on a trip, ending the night in a little camp. However, when a motor car speeds past them, upending the carriage into a ditch, Toad is immediately smitten by it. This classic tale of friendship, adventure, goodwill and a little curiosity has become a classic tale for children to grow up on. About Kenneth Grahame Kenneth Grahame was a Scottish writer. He is also remembered for writing The Reluctant Dragon. The Wind in the Willows was loosely adapted into Walt Disney film in 1996 starring Steve Coogan, Eric Idle and Terry Jones. The film was entitled Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. It was most notably adapted into a TV movie in 1983 starring Richard Pearson, Ian Carmichael and David Jason.
