A young girl is swept away by a tornado that sets her down in a mysterious land called Oz. The Wizard of Oz is a classic fantasy novel by L. Frank Baum. Summary of the Book Dorothy and her dog Toto aren’t in Kansas anymore. Their house was miraculously swept away by a tornado which sets them down on an unsuspecting wicked witch, ending her reign over the munchkins. Dorothy and Toto are in Oz, a wonderful land ruled by the Wizard of Oz, a wise and powerful man. However, Dorothy wishes to return home to her family, but to do so she needs to journey to the Emerald City, the capital of Oz. There, she will find the Wizard who can help her return home. To find the city, she must follow the yellow brick road, brave monsters sent at her by the Wicked Witch of the West, who seeks the red slippers Dorothy took from the witch her house landed on. On her way, Dorothy will meet some of the most loyal friends she has ever made, a scarecrow without a brain, a tin woodman without a heart and a cowardly lion. These creatures join Dorothy in hopes that Oz the great and powerful will grant them what they need to be whole. About L. Frank Baum Lyman Frank Baum was an American novelist known for the Oz series of children’s novels. This novel is sometimes entitled The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
