There’s A House Inside My Mummy by Giles Andreae and Vanessa Cabban is a children’s picture book with rhyming text. It is meant for kids who are expecting a baby brother or sister. Summary of The Book In the book There’s A House Inside My Mummy, author Giles Andreae recreates through regular pictures, stick pictures, and rhymes the anticipation and excitement of a young kid who is awaiting the birth of a sibling. The house inside mummy is a reference to the womb of the pregnant mother. In simple language meant for children, the author describes how the baby kicks and grows within mummy’s house and how mummy has to eat a lot of food to keep the baby healthy. There’s A House Inside My Mummy is written as if a young boy is describing his feelings about his soon-to-be-born sibling. The boy says that he too used to live in the house inside mummy. Though he doesn’t remember actually living there, he knows that the house is cosy and warm. He describes how the house keeps getting bigger because the baby is growing and needs more space. The little boy imagines the house inside his mother to be a giant bathtub where his baby sibling sleeps. He wishes that the house had some windows, so that he could catch a glimpse of the baby. The boy’s imagination grows further as the baby is all set to arrive and There’s A House Inside My Mummy comes to an end. All the limericks in the book come along with cartoons and depict a mother’s stomach as a very special place. About The Authors Giles Andreae is a British poet and artist who has written for greeting cards and has created two cartoon series namely Purple Ronnie and Edward Monkton. Ronnie, the character in the cartoon is a comic poet, much like Andreae’s real life persona. Using the pen name of Edward Monkton, Andreae created two famous cartoons, The Lady And The Chocolate and The Pig Of Happiness. His other books include The Lion Who Wanted To Love and Giraffes Can’t Dance. Andreae was born on the 19th of March in the year 1966. While at college, he developed cancer of the lymph glands. However, he managed to complete his course after intense treatment. Andreae’s work is often a mix of poetry (limericks) and stick drawing cartoons. He lives in Notting Hill with his wife and four children. Vanessa Cabban is an illustrator and has contributed to many award-winning children’s books. Her drawings and sculptures are often displayed in galleries across Britain. Cabban studied at the Royal College of Art and Brighton University. She lives in Northumberland.
