Shrivastava obtained his Masters degrees in Soil Conservation and Forestry from Govt. Agricultural College Kanpur in 1965 and Indian Forest College Dehradun in 1967 respectively and Doctor of Forestry from Goettingen University Germany in 1976 working on site productivity appraisal under Prof. Dr. B. Ulrich. He has specialization in forest ecology site sciences vegetation classification and forest typology ecopedology of tropical soils silviculture degraded ecosystem management social and agro-forestry soil science and watershed management forest nutrition forest inventory forest management and working plans. Dr. Shrivastava has 35 years of field experience in varied forestry fields of Western Himalayas; working as a Research Scientist at the Institute of Soil Science and Forest Nutrition (Goettingen University) Germany; teaching at Haryana Agricultural University Hisar and Papua New Guinea University ofTechnology Lae; and as Forestry Consultant to the World Bank Transmigration Project in Sumatra Indonesia Forestry.
