A.E. Pratt, a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, travelled from China to Tibet in 1887, taking his family with him upto a certain distance. He wrote an account of his travels after he returned to Europe. This work made no pretensions to be other than a straightforward and unvarnished account of his travels to the then little-known China and Tibet. Travelling along the Yangtse and its gorges, he made his way to Ichang; from thence to Chang and to the Sin Tan rapids. His account, written in the form of a diary, gives important information on the flora and the birds and reptiles he collected on the two journeys that he made back-to-back.
