Jim Hawkins is now the owner of the map to Treasure Island. He joins a crew and they leave for the island immediately in search of the loot that exists there. Summary of the Book Treasure Island can be seen as a coming-of-age story as much as it is a pirate adventure. The classic, by Robert Louis Stevenson, is about Jim Hawkins, the innkeeper's son, who is now the owner of the Treasure Island map. He and his crew go in search of the mysterious treasure and Jim finds himself learning a lot from the grown men around him. Jim learns about friendship, loyalty and betrayal from his adventures at sea. About Robert Louis Stevenson Robert Louis Balfour Stevenson was a Scottish novelist and poet best remembered for his adventure novels, including Kidnapped and Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Stevenson is one of the most translated writers in history, and has many memorials dedicated to him throughout the world. Treasure Island was adapted into several hit films, including a version in 1950 by the Walt Disney Studio, and another in 2002, entitled Treasure Planet, which adapted the story with a futuristic twist through animation.
