Two analytical and critical essays on the two great religions of the World – Hinduism and Islam. The essay on Hinduism is written by J. Murray Mitched and the one on Islam is by William Muir. The essays are long and are thus divided into parts. The “Hinduism” essay comprises of an introduction, the Vedas, Philosophy and religion, Reconstruction – Modern Hinduism, contrast with Christianity, and Hinduism in contact with Christianity. The essay of Rise and Decline of Islam comprises of an introduction, the rapid spread of Islam, why the spread was stayed and on the position of Islam in the scale of civilization. Both essays are written with a critical pen and much inclined esp. the one on Hinduism – to compare it with Christianity. The observations they make on the beliefs and rituals are correct but when the Christian flag is waved it looses it effect. By far the essays are very readiable and informative.
