In this winner of Copper Canyon Press' 2000 Hayden Carruth Award, Rebecca Wee creates a poetic mosaic in which individual pieces and fragments both inform and distort the “wholes” (lines, images, poems, the book itself) which they create. Lyrical, moody, diffuse, these poems mine tension and explore the artist’s impulse to make beautiful art out of terrible human suffering, to give voice to those not in a position to speak for themselves.
