Under Western Eyes is known as one of Conrad’s best literary works. It is set during the political turmoil of pre-Revolutionary Russia and is about a young man, Razumov, preparing for a career in czarist Russia. But Razumov is unintentionally involved in a revolutionary conspiracy when he hides a fellow student who killed a public officer. Under Western Eyes is said to be a response to Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment.
