Understanding Digital Signal Processing 3 Edition is a book that provides readers with detailed insight into the subject of digital signal processing in a clear-cut manner. Summary Of The Book Understanding Digital Signal Processing 3 Edition is a book that provides the readers with insight into the latest DSP techniques. The book strikes the right balance between practice and theory. The amount of math in this book is relatively less, which makes it easier for beginners to grasp important concepts in this field. For every chapter, Lyon has added a number of problems to test the knowledge of the reader. There are 13 chapters in this book, and they include Finite Impulse Response Filters, Digital Data Formats And Their Effects, Digital Signal Processing Tricks, Signal Averaging, The Discrete Hilbert Transform, Sample Rate Conversion, Specialized Digital Networks And Filters, The Fast Fourier Transform, Quadrature Signals, Infinite Impulse Response Filters, The Discrete Fourier Transform, Periodic Sampling, and Discrete Sequences And Systems. Lyons provides the readers with a great deal of insight into the laplace transform, the z-transform, matched filters, integrators, complex down conversion, the hilbert transform, decimation, and polyphase filters. At the end of this book, there are also 9 appendices, covering topics such as Computing Chebyshev Window Sequences, Decibels, Frequency Sampling Filter Derivations, Digital Filter Terminology, Mean, Standard Deviation, Variance, and Frequency Sampling Filter Design Tables. In this edition, Lyon has further elaborated on the subjects of IIR, and FIR filter analysis methods, integrators, digital differentiators and matched filters. This edition also consists of problem exercises at the end of each chapter, which help to test the reader’s understanding of the subject. He has also included double the number of DSP tricks compared to the previous edition. This book also comprises of new homework problems, and provides insight into generalized digital networks, which include matched filters, integrators, and discrete differentiators. Topics that have been elaborated further in this edition include variance reduction of averaging, sample rate conversion, real-world signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), IIR filter scaling, and implementing fast convolution. About Richard G. Lyons Richard G. Lyons is a well-known author, and hardware engineer. Lyons presently serves as a lecturer, and consulting systems engineer at Besser Associates, California. Lyons has also taught DSP at the University of California Santa Cruz Extension. Lyons has also been a hardware engineer for organizations such as the Northrop Grumman Corp, and the National Security Agency (NSA). He also holds the position of the associate editor of the Signal Processing Magazine (IEEE), contributing regularly to the “DSP Tips & Tricks” column of the magazine. He has also received the 2012 Education Award by the IEEE Signal Processing Society.
