‘Understanding Science of LIFE’ series of Science books are packed with unique features. These features or elements ensure that the information provided for each grade is complete, up-to-date and makes the students future ready. Aligning with the vision of the National Curriculum Framework (2005), the series starts off as a simple Science book and gradually introduces the concepts of Physics, Chemistry and Biology making the process of learning both interesting and engaging for the children as they grow older. The series also introduces Science Lab at the end of each chapter where the child can apply book knowledge to real life and see science as a living subject. Other features are explained below. The chapter starts with Back Track, to hook the students’ attention and Up Ahead that sets their expectation from the chapter, followed by Put on Your Thinking Cap, which makes both the teacher and the student ponder about the up-coming topics scientifically. Chapters in some books contain Young Scientist experiments for kids, which makes chapters relevant for them in a practical way. A halt in-between like Activity Station / Energy Boosters sometimes bring in a refresher. They revise that which is taught so far, before embarking on to further knowledge in lengthy chapters. Let’s Talk is a retrospective breather, where the teacher and class can discuss or narrate or give ideas and opinions based on the subject matter. This makes the learning process inter-active. Scoops are informative bits that give some interesting or new information as ice-breakers, which children can enjoy. Word-stock helps revise new and difficult words that will be useful again as time progresses. Eureka is a thorough revision of the chapter with MCQs and question-answers in work-book form. It sometimes includes SMARTIE questions which improve their thinking skills and also arouse curiosity. They are motivated to do some research, thereby satisfying their inquisitive minds.
