Unleashing India: Powering the Nation is the third volume in a continuing series on India’s social and economic development. The book discusses in detail the planning, development and management of the Indian power sector. It highlights and analyses the strengths, weaknesses, challenges and opportunities in this sector. It describes the plans for more capacity, the reforms underway, and the challenges therein. It lays out the challenges from the future which have become imperative to address now, along with other present challenges and those from the past which still persist. The book will be extremely useful for anyone interested in shaping the country’s power programme and contributing to the growth of India. About the Author M. Veerappa Moily was born in coastal Karnataka. He is a distinguished political leader, an eminent administrator, a reformer, a statesman of high calibre, an economist of repute and a renowned literary figure. An advocate by profession, he has been in politics for close to four decades. He was the chief minister of Karnataka from 1992 to 1994. He has also served as the chairman of the Tax Reforms Commission 2000-2002, Government of Karnataka; Second Administrative Reforms Commission (2005-9), Government of India (GOI); and of the Oversight Committee (2006), GOI. He is currently a union cabinet minister in the GOI. A gifted writer, he has written extensively in both Kannada and English. He has published three plays, four novels, three poetry collections and a compilation of his lectures. His most ambitious work to date is the epic Ramayana Mahaanveshanam.
