A leading critic of the time rightly wrote: 'Naadi has no pretense—there is no pretense in Shishendu Mukhopadhyay's being as a novelist. A vivid childhood memory, a painful experience-crisis and a calm dispassionate observation - above all, a most beautiful faith has shaped his life as a writer.' This faith is his main strength, one of the rare writers of Bengali fiction. In spite of all doubts in life, he uttered 'an unquestionable passage' with great courage. He is brave in the midst of endless disorientation around him. Here he is a unique creator. In any story of Shirshendu, despite all the dangers around, 'man's human concern for humanity is fierce'. At this moment, the passage of life through a narrow period. Yet in him he seeks the holy nature of man in supreme compassion. He believes there is a refuge somewhere, a place to return to. With a sense of faith, this 'loving yet dispassionate' writer is infused with 'an unfathomable longing for love'. In his own words, I have tried to express this longing in various ways in my writing. However, it seems that due to the failure of my expression, I have not been able to explain my inner love to everyone.... Does this world, this Calcutta, this country understand my unspoken love? Can everything be expressed with language?' Despite the author's doubts, the characters created by him are carrying 'that wave of love'. In the style and construction of the novel, Shirshandu's self-absorbed yet unattached posture and observation have added another dimension to Bengali fiction.
