Intercultural teaching and learning is becoming increasingly important in universities considering the new challenges as well as new opportunities in a culturally and linguistically diverse higher education landscape. This book is aimed at university teachers interested in teaching methodology. It focuses on a pragmatic approach to foster intercultural skills by using the Case Method. It includes the report of findings from an Indo-German project carried out by the Center for Modern Indian Studies at the University of Cologne (Germany) in cooperation with the Vellore Institute of Technology (India) and the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (India). The introductory section outlines the theoretical background of the development of the case study method in the context of teaching and learning research in detail. This is followed by a section on intercultural learning in universities. The next section provides an overview of how the case studies have been developed as a teaching and learning arrangement and discusses the limitations of the applicability of the mentioned theoretical framework. Three case studies are then reproduced as the basis for colleagues' own teaching. The authors would like to encourage readers to use these case studies in their own teaching and to adapt them to their own needs. The final section provides comprehensive material how to handle individual aspects of the reproduced case studies. Some possible interpretations are pointed out and the wide range of possible usage situations is presented. The documents also demonstrate how successful case studies can be in creating motivation, curiosity and creativity among students.
