Utopia is the English translation of the work in Latin. The plot is a work of fiction which has been interlaced with philosophy. The content has been written in two books. The first book has been titled The Dialogue of Counsel and the second book is Discourse on Utopia. This work by Thomas More was written in 1516, and has led to the addition of the word utopia into the human diction. It is generally used in the context of a world which is perfectly created but is out of reach of the population. The Dialogue of Counsel is actually based on the correspondence that Thomas More had with some eminent personalities of those times. The letters formed the basis for the creation of the fictional land of Utopia in the mind of the author. The creation of Utopia is borne more out of frustration, since the monarchs of different nations were constantly involved in wars with each other. More found the wars unwarranted as they led to a lot of bloodshed and also drained the exchequer. The second book provides a description of Utopia, an Island Nation. More writes that Utopia is an island nation. He believes that the island was discovered by Amerigo Vespucci on one of his voyages. Sir Thomas More was born on 7th February, 1478. He was a councillor in the court of Henry VIII. He was also the Lord Chancellor. He was among the principal opposers of the separation of the crown from the church. He was also against the protestant ideology and of the philosophy of Martin Luther. He has written A Dialogue Concerning Heresies, and The Supplication of Souls. He died on 6th July, 1535.
