Raksha Bandhan is a festival celebrated for the bond of siblings and their love for each other. On this day sister ties auspicious thread on brother’s wrist and wishes for his wisdom and prosperity. On the other hand, brother promises for protecting her sister from all the evils and problems and gives her gift as a token for their beautiful and life long relationship. This day occurs on the full moon day of shravana month of Hindu calendar.From when did this brother and sister relationship celebrated? The story lies in the history. During the time of Mahabharata Draupadi, wife of the pandavas teared down her saree from the edge and tied across the bleeding wrist of Krishna who got severe injury in his hand. From this day people (mostly Hindu’s) started appreciating this beautiful fellowship.The brother in return offers a gifts and promises to protect his sister from any harm and under every circumstance. The festival is also celebrated between brother-sister belonging to distant family members, relatives or cousins.
