This is a collection of very important essays on films written from time to time by the great filmmaker Satyajit Ray. Subject: Cinema. Film is such an art form, such a medium of expression, in which the contribution of many genres like literature, music, drama, painting etc. can be seen relatively clearly. Despite this, as an independent art form, film has its own specialty, ignoring which it is not possible to reach its essence. Ray has made these two points the central starting point in the essays of this book so that, on one hand, the specialty of film art can be highlighted and secondly, the reader can get the necessary intellectual basis to think about the possibilities and limitations of this art. The global references of films mentioned in the book provide breadth to this basis. The ease and interest that is found in Ray's fiction is also fully present in his non-fiction prose. Ray has maintained informality even while writing on the theoretical and technical aspects of film. The linguistic flow created by this does not allow the text to become cumbersome at any point.
