Varanasi, “the city of temples of learning”, the religious capital of the country, is the oldest living city with heterogeneous multiple layers of religion, culture, art forms, believes nature, profiles and individualities. It is a sacred and holy place to Hindu,Buddhist, Jain and Muslim religion and home to numerous religious monuments (4000temples, 300 mosques), famous as a centre of music, arts, crafts, education and learning.It is often described as India’s most spiritual city that emanates enough magic andintrigue to enchant everyone who steps here.Today, Varanasi is among the priority list of Prime Minister’s Developmental planwho has envisioned Varanasi to be a World Heritage Site that is able to attract bothdevotees and those who wish to understand and absorb India’s culture. He wants tomake Varanasi a Smart City in line with Kyoto. Efforts and plans are being made inthis regard.
