The popularity of oil lamp or Diya has spread worldwide. The original brass oil lamp diya has been replaced by modern electric lighting. Diya is an important part of Indian culture, tradition, and belief. Diya lights are placed on special occasions or festivals. Diya is blessed with love, lights are placed on the birthdays, marriages, house warming and most commonly used on Diwali. It is considered auspicious to light diyas on the day of Diwali. This beautiful oil lamp is a part of Diya family. The diya is a temporary artificial light used to illuminate homes and other indoor spaces as well as specific outdoor areas during the Hindu festival of lights known as Deepavali. The traditional diya is made of brass and comes in various sizes. It's commonly filled with oil and a wick made of sari or cloth. The wick is soaked in oil and lit for a few minutes, after which the flame is allowed to burn itself out. When it's completely extinguished, the wick can be relit, oil added, and the process repeated, although with shorter burn times each time, until the diya is completely burnt out. The practice of burning Deepavali diyas during the festival is thought to have originated in ancient times when brass lamps were lit in honor of God.
