The history of the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary, Sparkill, New York, from its founding in New York City by Mother Alice Mary Thorpe in 1876 through the first half of the twentieth century was recorded by Sr. Lucille Collins in her book The Vision is Tremendous. Appendix A of that book is a lengthy chronological listing from 1876 to 1968 of the foundations, schools, and institutions staffed by Sparkill Dominicans who labored, often under adverse conditions, in faithful service of the church. The Vision is Tremendous may be considered the story of the first era of the congregation’s religious life.
