Sometime in 2004, | saw a girl carrying a child on her back in a village in Dang, Nepal. She looked sad, happy and beautiful. I stopped and captured what I thought at the time to be a picture that said a thousand words.Few years later, while participating in a campaign demanding the fundamental right to education for all children in Nepal, I noticed a few children playing who had joined the campaign on behalf of their school and took a few photographs of happy children. They were in due to the efforts of Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary, a globally renowned rights defender.A few weeks later, while going through the photographs, I realised that one face in the school going children’s pictures looked familiar. She was the same child whom I had photographed in 2004. One of |few lucky ones who receive another opportunity for a bright future as she could continue her education.The photos taken then are the ones on the cover of this book. I still do not know her name Or what became of her. I would like to imagine that she grew up to live her dreams.
