About Ruskin Bond Ruskin Bond is a famous Indian writer of children’s fiction who has been honored with Padma Shri for his contributions to literature. Besides When Darkness Falls And Other Stories, Ruskin Bond has authored several other books. These include The Room On The Roof, The Blue Umbrella, Our Trees Still Grow In Dehra, The Night Train At Deoli, The Panther's Moon, Potpourri, Animal Stories, The India I Love, and many more. Ruskin Bond lives in Landour near Mussoorie in an Ivy cottage with his adopted family since 1964. May be because of this reason his various works have glimpses of the life experiences hill stations especially at the foothills of the Himalayas.               Born on 19th May 1934, Ruskin Bond is an Indian children’s fiction writer of British descent. After the sudden demise of his father, he started living with his grandmother in Dehradun since the age of ten. He completed his early education from Bishop Cotton School in Shimla where he won various writing competitions. Though he was raised by his mother, his love for books was initiated by his father. His father kept him surrounded with books and made him write small descriptions of nature. He also went on hiking in the hills with his father. Ruskin Bond has been honored with numerous awards for his contributions to children’s literature. These include the Sahitya Akademi Award and the Padma Shri.
