Wisdom of the Rishis by Sri M. is a comprehensive insight into the three Upanishads - Ishavasya, Kena and Mandukya. Summary of the Book This book on the Upanishads asserts the fact that they are not simply a collection of texts from the Vedic era, rather they are inquisitive insights into the origin and purpose of life and existence, which has been a mystery to man from the beginning of times. Ishavasya Upanishad delves into the existence of life in different forms as the single consciousness of a supreme power, who is the Isha, meaning Lord. The Kena Upanishad talks about the existence of I – if it is merely self-centred scope of existence or is there something beyond this. The Mandukya Upanishad deals with the various states of consciousness that a human being is known to experience. The wakeful state, the dreaming state and the deep sleep state. These three states are attributed to letters in the word AUM respectively. This book by Sri M. discusses the scientific approach that man had made as early as the Vedic times, to understand the many mysteries of all forms of life and the universe.
