A text which examines the developing role of women at work from domestic service and the Women's Land Army in the early 20th century to the present day worlds of business and industry, including detailed profiles of Helena Normanton, Jenny Francis and Brenda Dean. Each of the eight chapters begins with a short biographical account, looking in detail at a particular woman who exemplifies the theme at issue.
