Women in Love is a romance novel by D. H. Lawrence. It is a sequel to The Rainbow and is the second book in the Brangwen Family series. Summary of the Book This book continues the story of the love lives of the Brangwen sisters, Gudrun and Ursula. Gudrun is in love with Gerald Crich, an industrialist. The relationship proves destructive, but Gudrun doesn’t seem to realize the ill effects it has on her. In sharp contrast, Ursula and Rupert Birkin’s relationship is presented as nurturing and full of love. Birkin is an alienated intellectual, partly based on Lawrence’s own views of the world. Sexually overt for its time, this book is based on British society prior to the First World War. About D. H.
