It’s war against the Zombies in World War Z, an apocalyptic horror novel by Max Brooks. Summary of the Book They were too confident. After all, what could a zombie do? When the disease was first recorded in China, the Chinese tried to contain it. However, the clandestine black market organ trade ensured that the virus would spread. It reached Palestine, forcing the Israeli troops back to their own land where they locked everyone out. Even then, the United States was overconfident. The zombies turn rational politicians mad, beginning a nuclear war between Iran and Pakistan as they tried to siphon their infected into each other’s territory. As if that could work. Nothing was going to work. The vaccine the United States began to distribute was a mere placebo, placing most of the population in denial. People flock to the North, because the cold freeze zombies. They forgot that the cold also freezes normal human beings. Those who didn’t fall to the zombies, fell to hypothermia. In seven years, the disease spreads completely, leaving massive armies of zombies to walk the Earth. Civilian life degrades into a military regimen, and soon, little remains of civilization. They had underestimated what the living dead could do. Now, the remnants of mankind must rally themselves to fight off these monstrous creatures. But how does one kill something that’s already dead? About Max Brooks Maximillian Michael “Max” Brooks is a horror writer and screenwriter. Max is the son of Mel Brooks. He has also written The Zombie Survival Guide, the prequel to this novel. World War Z was adapted into a film in 2013, directed by Marc Forster and starring Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos and Daniella Kertesz.
