About the Author Born in 1952 in Sydney, Australia, he graduated in Medicine in 1977. While still a Medical Student he met his guru, Swami Satyananda Saraswati, in 1974, and was then able to blend alchemically the Science of Yoga and medicine into a unified system. He came to Bihar School of Yoga, Munger, India as Chief Coordinator of the IYFM Research Coordinating Centre in 1977. In 1990 he received his M.Sc. from the University of NSW in the Physiological effects of Asana on the respiratory system. From 1990-2001 he coordinated the Sydney Yoga Therapy Research and Education Centre, combining a medical practice, complementary therapies and yoga classes. He now travels and teaches yoga around the world to support his guru's mission. He is also The Author of : Yogic Management of Asthma and Diabetes, The Practices of Yoga for the Digestive System and Amaroli. Swami Satyananda Saraswati was born in the Himalayas in 1923. At an early age he began to have Spiritual Experiences which directed him towards the Sannyasa life. He left home on a spiritual quest at the age of nineteen and was initiated into the Holy order of sannyasa in 1947 by Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh. After serving his Guru for twelve years, he wandered for nine years in the association of many great saints and sages. Upon perfecting his Sadhana and becoming unshakable in transcendental vision, he founded the Bihar School of Yoga for training sannyasins and householders alike in yogic techniques and the Art of living a yogic life. Now as the Inspiration of, and guide to, thousands of yoga ashrams, Schools and centers around the world, Swami Satyananda is a leader of the modern yogic renaissance. He has distilled the essence of traditional sannyasa and made it possible for new age seekers to follow this Ancient path to eternal freedom. Plagued for the first twenty years of his life by asthma, the author began to look beyond conventional medicine for some relief. While still a medical student he combined the art and science of yoga with his medical studies under the guidance of his guru, Swam! Satyananda Saraswati.
