Abdul Kalam, born in 1931, is an Indian scientist and former President of India, who served his tenure between 2002 to 2007. Dr. Kalam has penned down many books, some of which are Wings of Fire: An Autobiography, My Journey: Transforming Dreams, India 2020: A Vision for the New Millennium, Envisioning an Empowered Nation, and Ignited Minds: Unleashing the Power Within India. Dr. Kalam studied Physics at St. Joseph's College in Tiruchirappalli, and later took admission into the Madras Institute of Technology to pursue Aerospace Engineering. In 1960, he joined the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) as a scientist. Nine years later, he was transferred to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Dr. Kalam is currently associated with IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Shillong, IIM Indore, IISc Bangalore, amongst many others, as a visiting professor. He is the Chancellor of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, and has honorary doctorates from forty universities. Dr. Kalam was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1997, and the Hoover Medal in 2008. Arun K. Tiwari, born in 1955, is an Indian scientist. He is the co-author of the Wings of Fire: An Autobiography and Guiding Souls: Dialogues on the Purpose of Life. Tiwari is a distinguished student of Dr. Kalam, and has worked in DRDO for twenty years. He is currently the Director, Care Foundation, Hyderabad, and is now working on developing indigenous medical technology.
