Is there a pensions crisis? Yes! 16m people (half the UK workforce) are facing retirement poverty i.e. surviving on less than 40 per cent of their pre-retirement income. Government reports that 3m people are seriously under-saving, and up to 10m are not saving enough. Currently 2.75m pensioners (mainly women) are already at poverty level. By 2050, 75 per cent of pensioners will face means testing for state benefits.
