David Daiches was a Scottish scholar, author, and literary critic. Some of his works include The Novel And The Modern World, Two Worlds: An Edinburgh Jewish Childhood, and Sir Walter Scott And His World. His writing often focused on Scottish culture and literature, and English literature. He was born on September 2, 1912, in Sunderland. He attended George Watson’s College. Beginning with the University of Edinburgh, he had a long, rewarding teaching career in the UK, Canada, and the US. Daiches was married more than once, and he had three children from his first marriage. He died on July 15, 2005.
