A Love Story for My Sister, by Jaishree Misra, weaves an intriguing tale of danger and ferocity and the incredible human capacity for hope. Summary of the Book The 18-year-old daughter of General Wheeler, Margaret, is kidnapped during the uprising in 1857. Another 18-year-old schoolgirl from Delhi, Tara Fernandez, is abducted and murdered in 1997. The two crimes of passion are bound by bizarre similarities, although they are separated by 140 years. Pia, the younger sister of Tara, wants to become a novelist. She is investigating Margaret’s case and learns that the victim had Stockholm Syndrome. After discovering Margaret’s letters and journals, Pia begins to understand how the woman might have fallen in love with her own captor. She wonders if her sister had developed the same feelings, too, as she had not returned home even when she had the chance to. Then why was Tara killed? Will Pia be successful in her attempts of understanding the psychology of the deceased? About Jaishree Misra Jaishree Misra is a British author of Indian origin. Her third book, Rani, a historical novel based on the life of Rani Lakshmibai, was banned by the Uttar Pradesh government. Until recently, Jaishree lived in the United Kingdom and worked at the British Board of Film Classification in London, but she returned to India to help set up a residential care home for people with learning disabilities.
