The novel encompasses a love affair spread over a period of 100 years. It is a tale of the supernatural love of an army officer who falls in love with a princess who is is burnt to death and takes rebirth as per the direction of the Lord. By a series of twists and turns the love is finally consummated when the princess takes rebirth and enters the life of her lover again. The novel is set in the 19th century and continues into the 20th century. This was the period when the Raj was omnipotent in India and the love affair is in the background of that period and time when the Rajahs were a factor in British India
