The plays were originally performed by The Mustard Seed Art Company, a group of amateur actors, based in Goa, India. The group was founded in 1987 and has been continuously performing for thirty-five years, ever enthused by the charm of theatre. It was this experience of theatre, an exciting collaborative art, that revealed to me the tremendous energy to be found when people join hands to creatively construct a dramatic performance. The time of discussion and rehearsal, the efforts at production, the day of the show, the synergies between front-stage and back-stage, the interweaving of the written text and the live performance, the performance as it unfolds, the interaction backstage with admirers and critics, the feedback and discussion about the play, the memories of the fun and talents shared, all these can be a treasure-house for those who respond to the call of drama.
