This is generally noticed that the studies pay no or very little attention to the administrative and organizational issues involved in district planning. This book fulfils that gap. It attempts to make a critical review of the state of decentralized district planning in India with major focus on the administrative arrangements. It studies the appropriateness and effectiveness of organizational infrastructure available at the district for district planning in the light of recommendations of various committees and commissions. Also, the book identifies the various issues like popular participation, resource allocations and mobilization, involvement of statutory bodies, PRIs and district development administration. It is useful for planners and policy makers, development agencies, and researchers.   About the Author Anil Kumar Jana, an M.A, LL.B., M.Phil. and Ph.D., currently heads the Department of Political Science with Rural Administration, Vidyasagar University, West Bengal. He is also the editor of Samaj Jijnasa, a journal of social sciences in Bengali, and Founder Secretary and Director of the Vidyasagar Centre for Social Sciences, Midnapore. Dr. Jana has authored a book titled Quit India Movement in Bengal. He has also edited Indian Politics at the Crossroads. He has published many research papers in national and international journals of repute.
