Carey is a well-known author and educator. Apart from this book, Carey has written a number of other books on organic chemistry, and some of them include Organic Chemistry: A Brief Course, and Advanced Organic Chemistry: Part B: Reactions and Synthesis. Carey hails from Pennsylvania, and he completed his schooling in Philadelphia. He completed his BS degree from Drexel University, studying Chemistry, and earned his doctoral degree from Penn State in the year 1963. Till date, he has published more than 40 research papers in several journals. Carey was also a part of the Committee of Examiners of the Graduate Record Examination in Chemistry, from the year 1993 to 2000. Richard J. Sundberg is a professor and author. His other books include Advanced Organic Chemistry: Part B: Reactions and Synthesis, Electrophilic Substitution Reactions of Indoles, and The Iboga Alkaloids and their Role as Precursors of Anti-neoplastic Bisindole Catharanthus Alkaloids. Sundberg completed his BS degree from the State University Of Iowa, followed by a doctoral degree from the University Of Minnesota in the year 1962. He has served as the Department Chair and Associate Dean at the University of Virginia, Department of Chemistry. Sundberg's main area of interest lies in the field of synthetic methodology in heterocyclic chemistry.
